Idea: An audio alert that notifies you when the shower water has heated up and is ready for you to start showering (which can take over a minute in some cases). Also: it could maybe attach to the shower head and whistle like a teapot when the shower water is ready; you could also put a sensor in the water heater to detect when you’ve run out of hot water and then to give you a “two minute warning” as you use the last of the hot water which is still in the pipes; attaching a dental water pik to a shower head, and (jokingly) using it as a bidet
Invention
Wasted Creativity Museum
Education, Invention, SillinessCommentIdea: A museum based on the ideas that were brainstormed on this podcast, including a "Wes Wing" for Wes's ideas. Also: a few new ideas to put in the Wes Wing, including a toaster that stamps designs on your toast, a chainsaw whose speed is dependent on the volume of your screams, an alarm that wakes you up by insulting you, Bluetooth underwear, etc.; a museum/store for both silly patents/inventions and prototype inventions (so you can provide helpful feedback to the inventors); companies that blatantly steal the ideas/patents of other companies; Tom thinks a camera on a toothbrush is actually a good idea; in 50 years, the podcast will provide a unique perspective into the zeitgeist of the time

"Boomer Ring" Rotary Cell Phone
Invention, Tech, NSFWCommentIdea: A cell phone that is used exactly like an old-fashioned cordless phone or rotary phone so boomers who don't understand cell phones can still use the phone in nursing homes without land lines. Also: it would be better than kludging together Magic Jack with WiFi or a cell phone paired with a Bluetooth cordless phone; hipsters and recovering cell phone addicts might also want to use it; nursing homes might not supply phones to every room because their tenants would run up adult phone line bills or fall prey to scams; in the future we'll communicate directly with our minds and elderly Millennials/GenYs/GenZs in nursing homes who can't figure out the mind phones will have to buy special old-timey cell phones

Stadium Cable Cars and Ferris Wheels
Invention, Event or Activity, SportsCommentIdea: To build cheap sports stadiums with no upper deck and instead to surround the stadium with machines or rides to lift people up to view the game, such as cable cars, Ferris wheels, swing set swings that go straight up and down, etc. Also: drone vendors to bring food to people sitting in these machines; bussing the machines between stadiums (like a traveling carnival) based on ticket demand; lengthening time between innings or quarters to give people sitting in these machines more time come down and go pee; fun over-the-top ideas such as tour busses that become a row of seats, human pneumatic tubes, and giant balloons; the weird baseball stadium vendor accent vs. the Boston accent and discussing the Midwestern/Michigan accent

Toilet Table
Invention, SillinessCommentIdea: A small foldable table to be used while sitting on the toilet and that can be stored on the toilet when not in use. It could replace the toilet seat lid, replace the toilet tank lid (or mount on top of a special toilet tank lid), or be stored in a slot behind the toilet tank. Also: some items such as coffee cups can be placed on a wet bathroom sink, but other items like your phone or a magazine cannot be placed on a wet sink and would be more appropriately placed on a small table; questioning whether you would be socially punished if people found out that you had a table in front of the toilet; giving it an exotic European-sounding name (like "Skorza") and then pretending that toilet tables are common in Europe

Blender Chopper Sink Attachment
Invention, FoodCommentIdea: A blender/chopper kitchen gadget that conveniently mounts on the side of a kitchen sink (or is built into it) which allows you to blend, chop, or mix food or wash a small dish, is easy to clean, and doesn't need to be stored. Also: Greag's fear of blenders and the risk of cutting yourself or using it wrong; the importance of convenience when trying to get motivated to do healthy things; complaining about large chunks (broccoli, whole mini tomatoes, etc.) in salads, especially restaurant salads

Skin Pocket
Body Augmentation, Invention, NSFW, SillinessCommentIdea: A storage pocket grafted into your body and made out of your skin, so you can, for example, store things while in the shower. Also: brainstorming where on your body to put a pocket; it should look more like a pocket and less like a sphincter; women storing things between their breasts; magicians who stab needles through their arms might know good places to put skin pockets; maybe you could graft muscles into the skin pocket so you can hold the pocket closed and also ensnare pickpocketers

Car Heat Vent Accessories
Cars, InventionCommentIdea: Two concepts of heat vent accessories that you can add to your car to blow warm air on you in a more satisfying way than the ones built into the dash (which only directly warm your hands and face and dry out your eyeballs). Also: heat vents as a zen meditation spot; Tom didn't realize that "air scarfs" already exist in some luxury car seats; Bluetooth-speaker-sized space heaters (without metal surfaces that could burn you) with rechargeable batteries that can attach to the headrest or a suit hanger; an air blower machine located below the car seat with an air nozzle near your seat belt that you can pull up to blow warm air inside your shirt

Lawnmower Weedwacker Combo
InventionCommentIdea: A mount on a lawnmower for a weedwacker, so you can use the weedwacker while mowing instead of having to walk around the yard twice (once while mowing and once while weedwacking). Also, maybe weedwacker(s) could mount in front of the lawnmower wheels and run while you mow to widen the mowing width. Also: getting rid of the mower blade and just making a lawnmower out of a bunch of weedwackers; robotic Roomba-style lawnmowers exist now; Roombas and how often a house should be vacuumed (and other home/hygiene things); a burner attachment to burn yard waste so you don't have to keep emptying the bag

Security Exophone
Tech, InventionCommentIdea: An "exophone" containing a metal box in which you put your Apple/Android phone to block its WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and microphone. The metal box has one USB/lightning cable sticking out, through which all data is passed between the Apple/Android phone and the exophone, including screen output, touch screen input, mic input, speaker output, Bluetooth, wired Ethernet (with location info stripped), etc. The exophone would contain it's own screen/mic/speaker/WiFi/cellular whose data is sent through the USB/lightning cable to the Apple/Android phone. There would be several physical switches on the exophone to enable/disable sending different types of data (such as GPS, Bluetooth, microphone) into the Apple/Android phone. That way, you have physical/hardware control over your privacy (because Apple, Google, and software in general cannot be trusted)

"Reprogrammable" Rollercoaster
Event or Activity, InventionCommentIdea: A very long rollercoaster divided into 5 track segments, where each segment is it's own ride (with, for example, a jungle theme or a space theme), and the lines for the 5 rides criss-cross and get occasionally switched up, so you don't know which track segment of the rollercoaster you're gonna ride, and therefore you don't know how many hills or loops you'll experience. Also, the audio/visual/effects around the rollercoaster could be reprogrammed to instantly update/change the theme of the ride. The goal is to make a simple rollercoaster always feel fresh and new and unpredictable. Also: customizing the rollercoaster visuals for a wedding proposal; occasionally having an extra-long ride that uses more than one track segment; passing out on rollercoasters (and other places)

Invention1 CommentIdeas: A dustpan with a hand-powered pump/suction attachment to suck up the last line of dirt; a periscope for short people to use at concerts to see the stage. Also: preventing people from using the concert periscope upside-down for lewd voyeuristic purposes; sitting on someone's shoulders during a concert is a dick move; the joy of watching animals freak out during an eclipse and the despair of failing to see the Northern Lights in Michigan

InventionCommentIdea: "Night lights" to help you go to the bathroom at night without turning on bright lights and fully waking you up, including both glow-in-the-dark footprints leading to the toilet and a glow-in-the-dark ring around the inside of the toilet. Also: questioning whether toilet night lights already exist in some form, possibly as a bidet with a light on it; the risk of an assassin moving the glow-in-the-dark footprints in order to lead someone to their doom

Food Tape
Invention, FoodCommentIdea: An edible flavorless tape that you wrap around messy food (such as a chili dog) and eat with the food so that you don't make a mess. Also: maybe also adding flavors, so you can wrap gross vegetables to make them taste like bacon or enjoy holiday-themed flavors such as candy cane or Santa (?!?); using the tape to make other things edible and delicious, such as food packaging and hair removal strips; risks such as the tape sticking to the inside of your throat or causing flies to stick to your food

Small Talk Mask
Invention, Silliness, TechCommentIdea: A speaker hidden inside a mask which uses AI to talk for you (pretending to be you) so you don't have to small talk. Also: it could "trash talk" for you if you get tongue-tied in stressful situations; it could help standup comedians by handling heckers, doing your act for you if you lose your spot in your set, or the audience could wear it and it could laugh for them; it could be warn on other parts of your body, such as to be a fart machine

Self-Driving Car Pothole Filling Device
Cars, Invention, FuturisticCommentIdea: A device in the "frunk" of a self-driving electric vehicle which drops hot asphalt or other road materials into a pothole as you drive over it (without stopping the car). If you did this (i.e. used your self-driving car to help repair the roads), you wouldn't have to pay EV road taxes. Also: using hovercraft-like cars to float over potholes; the risk of other cars driving into the hot asphalt that you just put in the pothole, and other possible problems with the idea; stories of potholes giving us flat tires

Invention, EnvironmentalismCommentIdea: A hammock for cooling you down, especially during summer heat emergencies when the power goes out. It would contain a shade with solar panel(s), a fan (which is powered by the solar panels), and hammock ropes which seep out water (like gardening "soaking hoses") which comes from a hose, water bag, or rainwater collection barrel. Also: you could pump icy water through the hammock in plastic tubes instead of dripping out water and getting you wet; a hammock which warms you instead of cools you; silly ideas for reducing body sweat and butt sweat

Slideout Front Entry Room
Invention, Futuristic, Tiny HousesCommentIdea: To replace the typical front door of a house with a "front entry room", for which, leading outside, there are two automatic sliding doors (one that opens side-to-side, and one, like an inch away, that opens upward), and leading inside there is another automatic sliding door. The purpose of this little entry room is to a) allow delivery men to put packages into the room so they don't get stolen off the porch, b) to keep the heat/AC in the house (especially for tiny houses), and c) to eliminate the chance of a swinging door smacking into someone heading through the door in the other direction at the same time. Also: the front entry room could collapse like an accordian or fold up to be flush against the wall when not in use (especially for tiny houses); the risk of it failing or giving someone a claustrophobic panic attack; stories of falling injuries, including Ben's story of falling off a statue at a sports stadium
